Guildmaster’s Guide to Ravnica

Amazon.com: Wizards of the Coast Dungeons & Dragons RPG ...

Sprawling across the entire planet, the city of Ravnica is home to high magic and dark secrets. Originating as an expansion setting in Magic: The Gathering, it has also been adapted as a campaign setting for Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition (D&D 5E).

We’ve set up a Ravnica character generator to play around with. It can be a great way for players to experiment with different characters ideas, and it can be a great resource for Dungeon Masters who need to set up a quick but thorough roster of NPCs.

What’s different about Ravnica?

Ravnica is a unique campaign setting in several regards. First, the different races that inhabit the plane are a little different from what we might be used to. Goblins in this world are extremely gifted with magical ability, and use that magic in a way that often resembles our ideas of technology. Think electricity, steam power, and plumbing.

The Simic Combine further blurs these distinctions by using magic and science to blend species in to new combinations that never existed before.

The Guilds of Ravnica

The other important detail about Ravnica that adds depth to campaigns set there are the ten guilds. Through the guildpact, these guilds organize the realm and maintain peace. Despite very different goals and ideals, the magic of the pact prevents total war from breaking out – but it doesn’t prevent each group from pursuing their interests.

Each character in our Ravnica character generator is assigned the following attributes:

Identity

  • Race
  • Class
  • Sex
  • Guild
  • Profession

Alignment

  • Alignment
  • Moral Development

Personality

  • Generation
  • Extroversion
  • Sensing Style
  • Judging Style
  • Planning Style

Generational archetypes are based on Strauss & Howe and personality types are based on the Myers Briggs typology. This is designed to give the character a rough age range and a sketch of their personality, as well. They shouldn’t be taken as rules or limitations of how a character can act, but as an easy start to build upon.
